Helen Ward

Helen's stunning 'paper entomology' artworks are a contemporary tribute to the golden age of collecting.

Inspired by her collection of rare Victorian hand-marbled papers, she pins incredibly detailed cut paper insects, butterflies and bugs into place in compositions into box frames utilising museum glass for UV protection, incorporating gold and silver leaf into some of her designs.

After graduating from the University of the West of England in 2001 with a degree in Graphic Design, Helen started her career making pop-up books whilst training as a traditional bookbinder. Whilst working at the bindery, Helen developed a love for the hand marbled papers that were made to be endpapers in traditional binding. She has since created a collection of these, some of which date back to the late 19th Century.

Alongside her artistic practice, Helen also designs homeware and gift ranges for several major international retailers. She regularly exhibits her Paper Entomology all over the world and her work can be found in several galleries across the UK.
