David Curtis

Working in oil and watercolour David is essentially a ‘plein air’ painter specialising in both landscapes and figurative works.

A member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists his paintings explore the space, colour and light of his subjects in a painterly and imaginative way.

Born in Doncaster in 1948 he initially pursued a career in engineering, painting in his spare time, before becoming a full-time artist in 1988. Already at that stage a member of the RSMA, his change of occupation was further marked by his elevation to membership of the ROI.

David is very keen to pass on his knowledge and experience and his work has been the subject of several books and video films on painting techniques.

His paintings are held in permanent collections in the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull; Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery; and in the Cusworth Hall Museum, Doncaster; and Singer Friedlander plc, Bishopsgate, London.
