Paul Fearn

Paul is an avid scuba diver and his love of the underwater world is reflected in his art. Koi, corals and all their inhabitants are realised in technicolour glory, whilst the patinas create the realism and movement of the watery environment. His pursuit of new diving experiences has taken him across the globe, from the Caribbean to the Philippines and everywhere in between. With hundreds of dives under his belt, he is as familiar with the underwater landscape as other artists are with the world above the waves.

Paul's aim is to recreate the magic and joy he experiences in the underwater world that we know very little about, and which few of us get to experience.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

Paul's art is produced on flat sheets of milled copper which is patinated by the application of chemicals to create texture. Acrylic paints are applied to the patina to emphasise the details in the corals and aquatic life. The final stage is the engraving through the layers of paint and patina to reveal the bright and highly reflective copper beneath.
